Focus on European languages
The core languages at GESS are English and German. All students from Pre-School to Grade 12 are learning these two languages that are taught at a variety of levels from beginner to native speaker.

Mother Tongue Programmes Dutch and Danish
GESS offers its Secondary students a unique Mother Tongue Programme for Dutch and Danish that is fully integrated in the curriculum. With this programme GESS supports this vital component of each child's cultural development whilst furthermore facilitating better integration into national school or university systems should the student have to return home.

In Pre-School, Danish lessons are running as part of the Midday Programme twice a week from 12.30-3pm.

Mother Tongue Support Programme
For other mother tongue languages, GESS offers a Mother Tongue Support Programme that is directed by the school's two language coordinators in conjunction with external tutors. This programme allows students to follow almost any additional language at mother tongue level.

At the Secondary School's European Section (IB), there are two major levels of language instruction - A and B. Language A which is mother tongue or near native speakers and Language B for students learning an additional language.

The following courses are offered in the academic year 2012-2013 in Language A, depending on student numbers.

*) MTS is a design individualized language plan that aims to strengthen and extend the native tongues not offered in the standard programme of GESS.
