Scholarships at GESS
GESS offers scholarships to highly motivated and ambitious students.
Annually, there are 12 scholarships available at GESS. These include academic scholarships aimed at students with high grades across a range of subjects as well as more focused scholarships for students with particular skills or talents e.g. in Science or Music. Our scholarships are applicable to students entering grade 10 or 11 in either the European or German section of the school.
The Principal's Scholarship is endowed with $20,000, the other scholarships are offered up to $10,000 for students with high grades across a range of subjects and up to $5000 for more focused scholarships. All scholarships are offered over two years. Payments are made each semester assuming that expectations are maintained.
Successful scholars will undergo regular reviews of their progress and contributions to the school. Ongoing expectations of scholars include the following:
1. As role models to other students, scholars must model high standards of behaviour and a positive attitude towards GESS and its community.
2. Academic scholars should maintain excellent academic scores
3. Scholars are expected to contribute to and participate fully in school life at GESS. As such, scholars should participate in school events, competitions and functions, and be active members of CCAs.
4. Scholars are ambassadors of our school and should take an active role in public events held at the school, by the school, or events at which the school is participating. This may include but is not limited to meeting VIPs and helping out at conferences,
5. Scholars should be prepared to contribute to the school website or other publications as required.
6. Scholars are encouraged to take on leadership roles such as in setting up student activities or volunteering for student council.
7. Scholars should form the core of our alumni.
Applications for a scholarship should include evidence of outstanding academic performance (e.g. reports and certificates) or special talents (e.g. a member of the Singapore Youth Orchestra) in addition to a short letter highlighting the reasons for wishing to study at GESS. Successful candidates will be invited to a personal interview and to sit an entrance exam.
Applications from internal candidates must be supported by a Head of Subject or Programme Coordinator.
